Top 10 things to do in Acklins and Crooked Island

Acklins, Crooked Island and Long Cay form a broken ring around the Bight of Acklins, with fewer than a thousand people across the three. These ten things to do are ranked, with the guides, boats and permissions that almost all of them depend on.

Fly fishing the flats of Acklins

Crooked Island and Acklins are separate islands joined by a short ferry, and Long Cay is a boat trip from either. Settlements are small and far apart, there is little in the way of walk-in attractions, and nearly everything is arranged through a local guide or captain. That is the appeal: the flats, the lighthouses and the beaches are shared with almost nobody.

The ranking leads with the fishing that brings most visitors, then the history and wildlife that reward anyone who comes for other reasons. Two lighthouses are reached only by chartered boat and are rarely visited, so each item is clear about what has to be confirmed before you go.

Fitting them into a trip

Anglers usually base on Acklins for the Bight and add Pompey Bay and the southern lighthouse on rest days. From Crooked Island, Landrail Point is the base for Marine Farm, Turtle Sound and Bird Rock, with a boat day to Long Cay if the weather allows. The ferry between the two islands makes it possible to combine both.

Tell us your dates and whether fishing is the point of the trip and we will make the introductions. The full list has every entry across the three islands.
