Top 10 things to do in Andros

Andros is the largest island in The Bahamas and one of the least visited, with a barrier reef along its east coast and blue holes inland. These ten reasons to go are ranked, with the guide and transfer detail each one depends on.

Scuba Diver Exploring the Coral Reef

Andros is really three islands. North and Central Andros share one landmass and most of the roads; Mangrove Cay and South Andros each need their own air or sea transfer. The blue holes, the reef and the craft visits in the north and centre work from a single base, while the southern flats and blue holes are a separate stay.

The order reflects what is distinctive here: the reef and the wall, the blue holes and the flats, and two craft traditions found nowhere else in the country. Many visits are arranged rather than open, so each item says who to contact and what to agree in advance.

Fitting them into a trip

From a Central Andros base the reef, the wall, Captain Bill's Blue Hole and the batik factory are all close, with Red Bays and Morgan's Bluff a northern driving day. Mangrove Cay and South Andros each justify a separate stay built around a guide: the flats on one, the blue holes and nature walk on the other.

Tell us whether fishing, diving or the blue holes come first and we will match the base and transfers to it. The full list covers all four districts.
