Top 10 things to do in Nassau

Nassau is where most visits begin, and the historic town, the beaches and the offshore cays are closer together than they look. These are the ten things worth your time, ranked, from a half-hour walk to a full day on the water.

Family With Kids Walking Up The Queens Staircase

New Providence is a compact island you can cross in under an hour. Downtown Nassau rewards walking: the staircase, the forts, the museums, the gallery and the distillery are all within a few streets of each other. The beaches on Cable Beach and Paradise Island are a short taxi ride, and the cays east of the harbour are reached by boat from the waterfront.

The list leans towards places that tell you something about The Bahamas rather than resort attractions you can find anywhere, with two exceptions that most visitors ask for. Opening days vary, especially for the smaller museums, so each item says what to check.

If you are arriving by cruise ship, the downtown items and the Fish Fry fit a port day comfortably. Tell us your dates and we will suggest the order and the transport, and the full list has every entry across New Providence and Paradise Island.
